Hot Tub Cover Maintenance Guide

Keep Your Spa Cover Looking Great and Lasting Longer

Your hot tub cover is essential for energy efficiency, cleanliness, and safety. With regular care, a quality cover can last 5–7 years or more.

Weekly or Biweekly Care:

  • Wipe It Down:
Clean the top of the cover with a soft cloth or sponge and mild soap (like dish soap). Rinse thoroughly with water to remove dirt, debris, and bird droppings.

  • Dry Thoroughly:
Always dry the cover completely after cleaning to prevent mildew and material breakdown.

  • Inspect for Damage:
Check seams, handles, and stitching for wear or tears. Address small problems before they worsen.

🧼 Monthly Deep Cleaning:

  1. Use a Non-Abrasive Cleaner:
Choose a cleaner made specifically for vinyl spa covers.

  2. Apply UV Protectant:
After cleaning, use a UV vinyl protectant (like 303 Protectant) to shield from sun damage and cracking.

  3. Unzip Vapor Barrier Liners (if removable):
Let the foam inserts air out in the sun occasionally to reduce moisture buildup and mold.

⚠️ What to Avoid:

  • No harsh chemicals or bleach

  • Don’t use petroleum-based cleaners

  • Avoid scrubbing with stiff brushes or abrasive pads

  • Never sit or stand on the cover — even “walk-on” models can weaken over time

🛡️ Tips to Extend the Life of Your Cover:

  • Keep It Dry:
Wipe off rain and snow regularly to avoid sagging or waterlogging.

  • Use a Cover Lifter:
A lifter prevents dragging and tearing and makes removal easier.

  • Allow the Spa to Vent:
Occasionally leave the cover open for 30–60 minutes after shocking the water to prevent chemical buildup underneath.

  • Winter Tip (if applicable):
Remove heavy snow gently with a soft broom. Never let ice build up on top.

  • Store It Properly (if removed):
Keep the cover out of direct sun and off the ground. Lay it flat or stand it on its side in a dry, shaded area.

📅 When to Replace Your Cover:

Replace your hot tub cover if:

  • It’s waterlogged and too heavy

  • It smells of mildew

  • The inner foam is cracked or sagging

  • It no longer seals properly
